Grey Water - Heat Recovery System
I am currently installing this system in my house which will have a conventional Grey Water system, where I run my shower water to a 120 gallon tank, where it will be chlorinated, filtered, and recycled to be used for flushing my toilets. I will install a large copper coil into the grey water tank to pre-heat the incoming cold water before it goes into my water heater. In the winter the incoming cold water gets as cold as 36 degrees, so with 90-100 degree shower water pouring over the coil of incoming cold water, I hope to pre-heat it to around 66 degrees. That’s 30% on the domestic hot water! I feel that savings and the 40 to 50% savings on my water bill make this a worthwhile project.
